Michael Tait To Join The Newsboys

According to the Newsboys website:

After 22 years and more than 2000 shows, newsboys frontman Peter Furler will no longer front the band in concert. Michael Tait will be touring with the band as lead singer with Peter making special appearances throughout the year.

Wow. That’s pretty sad/exciting news! My mind is having a hard time wrapping itself around the idea of the DC Talk guy joining the Newsboys, but I think it could be a great merger. Can’t wait to hear how it sounds and how they gel in a live show.

As someone who has been waiting for that dcTalk reunion for a long time (Come on guys! We miss you!) I’m kind of disappointed. But at the same time, I’m interested to see how it will turn out. Michael Tait has a great voice. I think it will be a good match.

But, I’ll still keep dcTalk on my list of “most wanted come-backs”. Right under Jennifer Knapp.

wow…
that’s a big change. main vocals add so much personality to a band, sometimes overshadowing the rest of the group. (ie: bono)

What a shift. I wonder what it’ll do their sound and fan base.

Almost seems like they should just start a new band - but I guess I understand the whole name recognition thing, too. I just think you’re right that they’ll sound a lot different.

I’m excited, though.
